For centuries, tallow candles have been a trusted source of light, dating back to ancient civilizations. Before the advent of modern waxes, people relied on animal fat-based candles for their clean, long-lasting burn. Tallow candles provided a natural, sustainable glow that stood the test of time. We've been inspired to continue this age-old tradition by creating a unique candle that honours both history, bioregional ingredients and nature.

We've been infusing tallow with wild harvested poplar buds for the past several months. This candle carries the gentle, resinous scent of poplar buds—hints of honeyed vanilla, earthy balsam, and a whisper of early spring when buds begin to unfurl into leaves.

Unlike synthetic candles, our tallow-based formula burns cleanly, free from petroleum byproducts or artificial fragrances.

We made a tiny one-time batch that we won't be making again! Once they are gone, they are gone forever.

Suet tallow from the Ottawa Valley infused with wild harvested poplar buds, local beeswax.

Usage

The first time you light your candle, is the most important. Be sure to let it burn long enough so that the wax melts all the way to the edges of the container. If a candle is not burned for long enough to allow the wax to liquefy or to melt from edge to edge of the container, it will create a “memory ring.” Once a candle has a “memory ring,” it will continue to tunnel for the life of the candle. Before you light a candle, always trim the wick to ¼ inch and remove any debris left in the wax pool such as wick trimmings or matches.
